Lagos is situated 78 kilometers from Faro, the capital district of the Algarve.

Monuments:

1 - Castle – conquered in 1189 by D. Sancho I

2 - Cultural Center – It has an Auditorium up to 300 people, it al so has a Library.

3 - D. Sebastian – Located on the Gil Eanes Square, it was built by João Cutileiro in 1972 at it represents D. Sebastian, who was responsible in 1573 for the status of “city” given to Lagos.

4 - City hall – Eighteen century building, recovered on the nineteen-century after a fire.

5 - Fortress – Built on the end of the seventeen-century, it has a chapel and a small museum dedicated to the discoveries of Portuguese people.

6 - S. António, S. Sebastião and Santa Maria Churches.

7 - Slave Market – It was the first of it’s kind in Portugal (XV century); it now functions as an art galley.

8 - Local Market – It’s the main point to buy vegetables and fresh fish.

9 - Luis de Camões Square – This monument was built in honour of the Portuguese soldiers and fighters.

10 - Courtroom
